School of Continuing Education is a secondary unit of Kunming Medical University. It has a school history of more than 60 years. There are more than 40 employees in 6 departments which include Administrative Office , Office of Admissions and Enrollment, Office of Education Management, Office of Student Affairs, Training Department and Office of Off-campus Teaching Center Management. The School of Continuing Education is mainly responsible for higher degree continuing education and non-degree continuing education. Relying on the outstanding teachers of Kunming Medical University, the school has cultivated a large number of practical medical professionals. The school was awarded as Excellent Adult Higher Education School of Yunnan Province and Advanced School of Higher Education Self-study Examination of Yunnan Province by Yunnan Provincial Department of Education.
The school always adheres to the policy of surviving on quality, developing on quality. Since the enrollment of night college students in the 1980s, it has set up three levels of adult degree education, including junior college education on the basis of high school education, undergraduate courses on the basis of junior college education and undergraduate courses on the basis of high school education. The programs cover Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Stomatology, Preventive Medicine, Rehabilitation Therapy, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, Optometry, Public Affairs Management, Medical Imaging Technology and Midwifery.
In order to meet the needs of the majority of medical and health technicians in our province to receive higher education, the school began to establish off-campus teaching sites in 1996, and has gradually established 108 teaching sites in 16 cities of the province. More than 130,000 part-time senior medical and health professionals have been trained to work in the border areas. They are serving the grassroots community, making outstanding contributions to Yunnan's health services, economic and social development, ethnic unity and progress, prosperity and stability in the border areas.
On the basis of good academic education, the school continues to expand school space and actively carry out non-degree continuing education. With the approval of the relevant departments of Yunnan Province, the school has been established the General Medicine Training Center, Yunnan Health Policy Research Center, Yunnan Drug Policy Research Center, Yunnan Rural Doctor Standardized Training and Guidance Center, Yunnan Community Nursing Service Center, Yunnan Health Supervision and Training Base, Yunnan School Doctor Training Base and other centers and bases. The school has organized the Training Project for Rural Health Personnel in Yunnan Multi-ethnic Border Areas held by the US-China Medical Foundation, the construction of Rural Doctors' Ability Evaluation System and Network Training Platform, and China Red Cross Foundation’s Rural Doctor Training, Yunnan-Shanghai Cooperation Project, Yunnan Skills Training and Teacher Training Program for Grassroots Health Technical Personnel , Yunnan Cities (Counties)-level Chief Health Supervisor Training, Yunnan Health Supervisor Ability Improvement Training, Yunnan School Doctor Training and other projects.
