KMU MBBS Team Won “Excellent Team Award” in the First Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for International Medical Students

    On December 9th, “Study in China”----The First Clinical Thinking and Skills Competition for International Medical Students was held in Tianjin Medical University. Kunming Medical University team was led by Shrawan Kumar Sant (2012 Batch), John Jacob Mathew (2012 Batch), Aditi Pal (2013 Batch) & Aayushi Sharma (2013 Batch). In this competition Kunming Medical University was one among the top ten teams and had the pleasure to receive both, “Best Teamwork Award” and “Excellent Team Award”. Moreover, Aditi Pal was awarded the “Excellent Performance for Internal Medicine Skills”. Congratulations to the Kunming Medical University team. 
    TheCompetition was jointly sponsored by China Association for International Education and Tianjin Medical University, and itwas hosted by International Medical School of Tianjin Medical University. Over 104 clinical undergraduates from 26 universities across China participated in this competition. Contestants belonged to 26 different countries and as they came together, their vigorous enthusiastic demeanor was witnessed in the competition.
    The Competition was conducted in two phases: the preliminary round in the morning and the final round in the afternoon. There were seven tracks in the preliminary round.Seven groups of students competedwith each othersimultaneously. The time limit for each group was 40 minutes. The procedure involved the following clinical skills: clinical inquiry of standardized patients, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, lumbar puncture, neonatal physical examination, maternal examination, wearing gloves, surgical gowning, disinfection, dressing etc.The atmosphere was restored with the clinical environment and scenes were created as real as possible, in order to focus on assessing the medical clinical thinking, spirit of humanistic care, communication skills with patients and standardized clinical operation of a qualified medical student.

    The final round in the afternoon was a comprehensive first-aid program. The mission was to rescue the victim of the earthquake disaster.They were required to complete the rescue within 25minutes and should also transfer the patient to the ambulance in the safe zone.
